Overview of the British curriculum

Maharat S.U.P.E.R Global implements the world-class accredited British education programme throughout the years of study of students in the school, which are divided into 4 main stages as follows

  1. The Foundation Stage

  2. The Primary Stage

  3. The Secondary 1 Stage

  4. The Secondary 2 and Advanced Stage

Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) programmes and qualifications are provided by the school for the core subjects, which are English, Mathematics, and Science.

In addition, French or German or Arabic for non-Arabic Speakers is offered as a second language as well as a curriculum for Humanities which addresses the main incidents in World History as well as Geography. This is meant to broaden students’ minds through global awareness and facilitate communication with the outer world.

National subjects are also provided, in accordance with the requirements of the Egyptian Ministry of Education.

Instruction is supported by the Montessori approach throughout the Foundation and Primary stages to help children better understand the “how” and the “why” with the materials as well as learn responsibility, compassion for others and self-motivation

During the Secondary 2 Stage, the school prepares its students for the IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) exams according to the syllabuses set by Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) and Edexcel.  In Egypt, all IGCSE exams, whether set by CIE or Edexcel, are administered by the British Council in Cairo.

About Montessori

The Montessori approach is basically an educational philosophy developed by Dr. Maria Montessori. It is a result of her observations and discoveries of the ways in which children learn. The methodology revealed that education is a natural process which develops spontaneously in the human being. It is not acquired by listening to words, but in virtue of experiences in which the child acts on his environment. Hence, the teacher’s task is not to talk, but to prepare and arrange a series of motives for cultural activity in a special environment made for the child to independently discover, understand, and achieve the educational objectives. Thus, students learn the concepts via working with tangible, specialized educational materials rather than the traditional lecturing style. In addition, through the implementation of the Montessori approach children learn responsibility, compassion for others and self-motivation.

The school integrates the Montessori approach from Foundation stage and up to the end of the Primary stage (up to year 6). The aim is to ensure that each child develops his/her full potential and becomes a healthy well educated adult that can benefit the society.

Children who attend Montessori schools develop the following qualities:

  • Academic excellence

  • Self motivation

  • Lifelong love of learning

  • Self control

  • Confidence and competence

  • Social awareness

  • Spiritual awareness

  • Creativity and originality of thought

The aims of the Montessori approach are as follows:

  • To create a caring family atmosphere within which academic learning, social and personal development of students can take place in the right environment.

  • To work co-operatively with parents to enable our students to develop:

  • A sense of self-discipline and responsibility for their own actions.

  • A sense of identity, achievement and self worth.

  • An empathy for children’s feelings.

  • An awareness and a desire to care for their environment.
